Governor candidates square off at the State Fair

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Scott Heidepriem says South Dakotans would get more of the same if they promote Republican Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard in the November election.

Governor candidates spar over budget, education at Dakotafest

MITCHELL -- Republican governor candidate Dennis Daugaard told a Dakotafest audience Wednesday not to be fooled by the "misdirection" of his Democratic opponent, Scott Heidepriem, who says state government has grown in size and spent less on education under the current administration.

Federal aid for education a hot topic at gubernatorial debate

South Dakota should not turn its back on $26 million in education funding from the federal government and instead should use that money to hire or retain up to 500 teachers statewide, state Sen. Scott Heidepriem, the Democratic nominee for governor, said Thursday.

Despite my last name, I have no relation to the former South Dakota speaker of the house, but I served as a legislative page in Pierre during my senior year of high school and was honored to have met Michels.
